Our rocket was Firey Dragon in our group there was me (Alex), George , Shane and Ross (who has

quit STEM club).

Even if we didn't get our rocket the highest (although we couldn't see it because of the clouds) it definitely went the furthest seeing as it landed on the rugby pitches. I think that it went about 85 metres.

Making the rockets took a while to do, about 5 or 6 weeks, but the finished product was definitely worth it. We decided to paint our rocket red, yellow and orange to go with the name Firey Dragon

One other thing that happened was that when our rocket landed the nose of the rocket got lodged into the ground because the secondary charge that was meant to set the parachute off ended up making our rocket hurtle back to Earth!

We chose our design to be small to make the rocket lighter but we had the feeling that if it was short it wouldn't go up in a straight line so to solve this we added 4 fins. But unfortunately that didn't help because of the speed it was going at, the fins broke off and it wobbled and resulted in only going the average of 27.465 metres high. We had designed a smaller parachute as well as we thought it would be easier for it 2 be fired out of the top but there was only 1 parachute out of all of our groups that worked. We still had fun, even though we didn't win, but its all part of it!

BAM!!!

Our rocket results are as follows...

>>>1. 23.91 metres (the best!!)
>>>2. 22.97 metres (not as good!!)
>>>3. 22.81 metres (down down down down!!)
>>>4. 16.72 metres (i know it was rubbish but thats just tight scoring!!)

I would put some pictures and videos up but I have to confess, I don't know how to because I was new to blogger when I joined STEM!!!

Ours was probably the one that would win the most frestyle points but oh well, we had a good laugh even if we were ice statues at the time!

Best of the Beths, the winning rocket.
To our delight out rocket won, and soared right over Delacy towards Ms Gillespies room. The Rocket went over 100metres (we think). Although the parachute did not release due to the fact that it was stuffed into our rocket as the tube was thin so the parachute could not simply fall out. At first we could not get our rocket to go and had to wait for a bigger fuse, (the bigger the better!) When our rocket did eventually get going we watched it jet off into the sky, I am not entirely certain as to where the rocket is now, I think it was badly damaged when landing, but the experience of making the rockets was thoroughly enjoyed by me and Beth Roberts. Hopefully a video has been attached below of the take off, which Charlotte so kindly recorded and bluetoothed to me.
